More than 170 Los Angeles Homeless Pets Adopted
at the 14th Annual Bow-Wows & Meows Pet Fair

Valencia, CA – More than 170 homeless dogs and cats were adopted in one day, thanks to the Bow-Wows & Meows Pet Fair at Newhall’s Hart Park on Sunday, Oct. 12.

The large selection of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens, as well as low fees starting at $30, incentivized attendees to adopt, not shop, for a pet. As a result, a total of 173 dogs and cats were adopted from the participating shelters, as well as several local rescue groups. All pets for adoption were spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.

Lexxy Wilson and Tom Benevidez of Valencia adopted Penny, a petite German Shepherd mix, from Lancaster Shelter at the close of the fair. “She’s calm, trained and the perfect size,” Wilson said of Penny. “I am 100 percent behind adoption. Dogs in shelters really need homes.”

Bow-Wows & Meows Pet Fair provides Los Angeles County animal shelters and other adoption agencies a festive, open venue to showcase pets to potential adopters in the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond.

Carson Shelter adopted out 28 dogs and cats, which thrilled Animal Control Attendant Kat Rosales and the many volunteers who helped at the event. “A lot of these dogs had been at the shelter more than a month, so we’re thrilled they were adopted,” Rosales said. “With more space at the shelter, there will be less euthanasia. Bow-Wows & Meows is just a great event.”

In addition to adoptions, guests enjoyed entertainment, vendors, and a lineup of popular food trucks. Audiences were thrilled watching the Extreme Canine Stunt Dog Show, which featured astounding agility performances by dogs rescued from shelters across the country, while the “Fun Dog Show” delighted children and adults of all ages.

The non-profit Bow-Wows & Meows, Inc. was founded 14 years ago by Canyon Country resident and passionate animal welfare advocate Yvonne Allbee and the fair is operated each year by an all-volunteer board of directors. “There’s no better feeling than knowing that more than 170 animals went from a cold shelter floor to a warm home,” Allbee said.
